Co-amoxiclav (amoxicillin + clavulanic acid)

(Penicillin) antibiotic. Used to treat a large variety of infections caused by bacteria.

Amoxicillin in combination with clavulanic acid is used to treat infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to amoxicillin alone.

Do not combine different antibiotics unless you are advised to do so by your doctor.

  How do they work?
Penicillin antibiotics kill certain types of bacteria and so will help your body to clear the infection.

How long to you take them for?
Normally you will have to take a course lasting five days. Some times if necessary the doctor will prescribe it for a longer period of time. Always finish the whole prescribed course.

When does the effect show or when is it noticeable?
After a few days(3-4) the infection will clear up.

What are the side effects if any?
Diarrhoea, nausea (try to take it with food), Skin rash. Allergy for penicillin antibiotics.

How do you take them?
Take the tablet or capsule with enough water. Divide the doses well over the day. If necessary take the dose with food. Warning: Amoxicillin lowers the oestrogen action of the oral contraceptives. Take other contraceptive measures.
